About Us

The first Association of General Practitioners in Quebec

The Association of General Practitioners of Montreal (AMOM), the very first association of general practitioners in Quebec, was founded in 1961. Today, we are one of the 19 associations affiliated with the Fédération des médecins omnipraticiens du Québec (FMOQ).

We represent over 2,100 physicians in the Montreal region. Our members practice in various settings, including Family Medicine Groups (GMF), Family Medicine Group with a teaching mission (GMF-R), Family Medicine Group in a university setting (GMF-U), CLSC (Local Community Service Centers), emergency departments, healthcare facilities, public health, long-term care facilities (CHSLD), and more.

The AMOM within the FMOQ

The Council is the decision-making body of the FMOQ. Each of the 19 affiliated associations is represented by a delegation, the number of members of which is determined based on the total number of its members in good standing with the representation model established by the FMOQ.

The AMOM currently has 29 delegates on the FMOQ Council, out of a total of 154.

Always attentive to the suggestions or proposals of its members, the AMOM acts as a true spokesperson for them, aiming to represent their interests to the best of its ability with various institutions.

The mandates and responsibilities of the AMOM are assumed by the Board of Directors, composed of nine (9) members. They are elected every two (2) years during the Association's general assembly.

The AMOM Bylaws

The bylaws establish the operating rules for the Association. They facilitate the establishment of the mechanisms necessary for the pursuit of the Association's mission, which include the study, defense, and development of the economic, social, moral, and scientific interests of its members as well as the development of family medicine in Montreal.
